Context View

Context View displays results within their context in a document. That is, your search terms highlighted and surrounded by lines of text from the document in which they are found.

Click the Context button to switch to Context View.

This displays the name and file path of the document and/or the document's title (depending on what columns are set in the Result List), and each line in the document in which the search term is found. By default, the display shows one line each side of the line containing your search terms; this can be changed, see below.

You may notice that the scroll button to the right flashes. This indicates that you cannot drag the scroll button to jump directly to another part of the listing, because the context display is built 'dynamically', as you go along. Use the usual up/down arrows or Page Up/Page Down buttons to move through the listings.

To view a document, double-click anywhere within the document's portion of the context display (this is the text following the information contained within the double lines and in bold). The document will open in the Document Browser.

Context View Options

To control the context view, select

Tools > Preferences from the menu and select Context.

The options control how hits are displayed in content view of the result list, the options are:

Entire paragraph containing hit

Display the entire paragraph containing your search terms.

Number of lines either side of hit

Display the specified number of lines either side (top and bottom) of the line containing your search terms. The default is one.

Entire section named

Where Named Sections are used in the document, display the entire Named Section in which your search terms appear. Select the desired section from the drop-down listing.

Limit number of hits

Show only up to the maximum number of hits for each document, between 1 and 50 hits, this will improve the speed at which context is returned and is useful if you want to see a quick view of the documents.

Show expand up and down links

Allows the current context to be expanded to show a small additional part of the document to see the full context of query term.

Print context of result when context is active

When this option is checked, clicking the Print button causes the entire context view for all found documents to be printed, which may be quite lengthy. If this option is not checked, only the context view for the current document is printed.
